Access Update 2010: Safe Harbor is currently closed to climbing. Despite the fact that the entire area was rebolted by a few devoted local climbers, the area is now being heavily patrolled by police. Climbers are being escorted from the area and fined for trespassing. If you climb here now , you will have to face serious consequences. Many other great nearby climbing areas exist. If climbers abide by the current rules and stay away, climbing may be allowed sometime in the future. Check lancasterclimbing.com for more info.
Safe Harbor has been a long battle. This area is currently
closed to climbing and is a major focus to local climbers. Eric Horst has
taken charge in spearheading efforts to allow climbing on the old Norfolk
Southern rail-bed. In 2006 the area was actually opened for about
60 seconds--just long enough to say: "hey, lets go down to 'The Harbor'
and get a few routes in ...oh, never mind , it's closed already"
On a serious note, however, the Lancaster climbers Club and Eric Horst have put in a great deal of effort into securing access.
